| '''Question:''' Is it possible to use the oxygraph with a chamber temperature of 0 Β°C?
| |
|
| |
| Our system is specified down to 4 Β°C at 25 Β°C room temperature and down to 2 Β°C at "lower ambient temperature", see
| |
| [http://www.oroboros.at/index.php?id=o2k-specifications| specifications].
| |
| Lower ambient temperature does not necessarily mean a "cool room". For 2 Β°C, an air conditioned room will usually suffice.
| |
| While we can only guarantee the working of the instrument within theseΒ limits, it has been shown to be possible to go successfully to 0 Β°C. In general, thisΒ may require a "cool room". For this purpose, the main unit itself can beΒ exposed to temperaturesΒ down to just above 0Β°C (all the electronicΒ components are rated at least down to 0 Β°C but 0 Β°C roomΒ temperature should be avoided due to condensation concerns). Also, for very low room temperatures above 0 Β°C, humidity should be controlled by some means.
| |
| We recently performedΒ a short test and were able to reach 0 Β°C chamber temperature quite easily at a room temperature of about 14 Β°C.Β In order to maintain this temperature, the cooling power of the Peltier element reached 95% of maximum. Thus, some form of cool room would probably be necessary for longer experiments.

| '''Update for O2k Series E:'''
| |
| Because Series E Oxygraphs have a more efficient temperature management system the experiment described above was repeated with a Series E O2k. In this case it was not necessary to reduce the room temperature. [[User:Fasching Mario|Fasching Mario]] 14:39, 4 February 2013 (CET)

| Details: O2K - 0Β°C block temp.Β - stable Peltier power was reached after about 1:05 h from setting blockΒ temp. from stable 37Β°C to 0Β°C. - stable Peltier power was about -83 %. - room temperature was 21.1Β°C [[User:Capek Ondrej|Capek Ondrej]] 14:36, 4 February 2013 (CET)
