His research applies a bioenergetic lens to understand the pathogenesis of complex metabolic diseases such as insulin resistance, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and cancer. Furthermore, his work employs bench to bedside designs in order to translate research findings into clinically relevant observations that serve as the basis for novel therapeutic strategies. | |

The goal of his research is to comprehend how energy metabolism and its adaptability affect health and disease. At the laboratory, they use various methods and systems-biology approaches to reveal new insights and better understand the integrated mechanisms that cause obesity and obesity-related type 2 diabetes. His research group is internationally recognized in the field of mitochondrial function assessment, thanks to their expertise and work in mitochondrial physiology. In 2016, he was appointed as a group leader in MitoEAGLE, CA15203 cost action under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.
