Azide

Description

Sodium azide is an inhbitor of cytochrome c oxidase (COX, CcO).

Abbreviation: Azd

Reference: MiPNet03.02

Application in HRR

Azd: Azide (Sodum azide; NaN3), Sigma-Aldrich: S2002, store at RT, CAS: 26628-22-8, M = 65.01 gΒ·mol-1
Hazard statements: H300, H310, H330, H373, H410; fatal if swallowed, fatal in contact with skin, fatal if inhaled, may cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure (brain), very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects
2021-03: Preparation instructions were updated to take the volume of the solute into account (see Volume of the solute). The concentrations prepared following the former instructions (see Discussion section) are sufficiently high for SUIT protocol titrations.

Preparation of 4 M storage and stock solution (1 mL, dissolved in H2O) for 2-mL O2k-chamber:
  1. Weigh 260 mg of sodium azide.
  2. Dissolve in 900 Β΅L H20.
  3. Divide into 0.5 mL portions.
  4. Store at -20 Β°C.
Β»O2k manual titrations MiPNet09.12 O2k-Titrations
  • Titration volume (2-mL O2k-chamber): β‰₯50 Β΅L using a 100 Β΅L Hamilton syringe.
  • Final concentration: β‰₯100 mM.

Preparation of 2 M stock solution (dissolved in H2O) for 0.5-mL O2k-chamber:
  1. Take 400 Β΅L of the 4 M stock solution.
  2. Add 400 Β΅L H2O.
Β»O2k manual titrations MiPNet09.12 O2k-Titrations
  • Titration volume (0.5-mL O2k-chamber): β‰₯25 Β΅L using a 100 Β΅L Hamilton syringe.
  • Final concentration: β‰₯100 mM.
