Salicylhydroxamic acid

Description

Salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM; synonym: 2-Hydroxybenzohydroxamic acid N,2-Dihydroxybenzamide) is an inhibitor of the alternative oxidase (AOX). When AOX is blocked by SHAM, electrons are forced through the Q-cytochrome c oxidase pathway (Q-CIV pathway), allowing observation of the operation of the Q-CIV pathway without AOX activity.

Abbreviation: SHAM
