OROBOROS Science Scholarship

OROBOROS Science Scholarships are offered for focused research projects on mitochondrial physiology and high-resolution respirometry. Recepients will join the O2k-Team for a period of typically 3 months, for extending international cooperations in the Mitochondrial Physiology Network with young and experienced scientists, or for initiating long-term postdoctoral projects.

We can share our experience and capacity for high throughput in high-resolution respirometry (with up to six Oxygraph-2k or 12 chambers operated in parallel) with investigators from your group. A collaborator of your team (PhD student, postdoc, ..) may join us for a defined collaborative project with the Mitochondrial Physiology group of E. Gnaiger at the MitoCom Tyrol Laboratory, Medical University of Innsbruck and OROBOROS INSTRUMENTS. This project will provide a detailed introduction into

  • the technical details of high-resolution respirometry, preferentially after participation in an introductory O2k-Workshop on high-resolution respirometry),
  • preparation of permeabilized tissue (in particular muscle fibers), tissue homogenates or permeabilized cells for OXPOHS analysis,
  • the conceptual basis of OXPHOS analysis with respiratory substrate-uncoupler-inhibitor titration (SUIT) protocols when working with isolated mitochondria, permeabilized cells or tissues.

For the first phase, we will accept applications until Feb 20 and announce decisions on acceptance until end of February 2013. The scholarship will start with participation at the April 2013 O2k-Workshp. The scholarship then should provide sufficient time for application for a postdoc grant (Marie Curie Fellowships etc.) to join us for a full postdoc project.

How to apply

To initiate such a project, we would define the project with a realistic time plan for the experimental work, fitting into the research interests of the collaborative teams. OROBOROS INSTRUMENTS provides financial support, accomodation and free registration for an O2k-Workshop.
