In order to discern beginners and advanced users for the evaluation of the proficiency test, these must be recognized as such.
One possibility is to hand out a questionnaire and to decide based on this.
Some suggested questions for a questionnaire (which will need to be complemented by observation of the participants):
- Do you consider yourself a beginner or an advanced user of the O2k?
- How often have you been using the O2k in the past 6 months?
- - Never/1-5 times/5-10 times/Routinely
- Are you doing experiments with one instrument only or do you handle several O2k's simultaneously?
- Did you (ever) determine instrumental oxygen background flux of the O2k in your lab?
- Have you ever volume-calibrated your O2k chambers?
- How often do you service your Polarographic Oxygen Sensors (POS)?
- How often do you zero calibrate your sensors?
- Do you use different protocols in chambers A and B in a single run?
- Have you been using the DatLab protocol driver before?
- Did you participate at an O2k-Workshop and if so, when and which type of Workshop (basic, advanced - e.g. Fluo, TPP)
- Do you understand the terms LEAK, OXPHOS, ET capacity, ROX?
- Do you understand the terms F-, N-, S-linked respiration?
- Do you understand the terms CI, CII, CI&II-linked respiration?
